Midfield maestro for Liverpool, Steven Gerrard made his debut for Liverpool Football Club in 1998 as a second half substitute for Vegard Heggem against Blackburn. His full debut came in the UEFA Cup against Celta Vigo at Anfield. Since then, the English Premiere League has been witnessing the energy, passion and tireless running of this mouse look footballer. Born on May 30 1980, it is fair to say that Steven Gerrard is the most complete midfield player England ever had.
Steven Gerrard came close twice to leave The Reds. Chelsea Football Club offered 32 million pound for the player service in July 2005, only to have Reds faithful fans burn their own Gerrard shirt to show their protest. 24 hours after the deal was agreed, Gerrard made an amazing u-turn, turning down Chelsea to stay for Liverpool. In summer 2006, once again confusion aroused about his future. This time after Real Madrid offered to buy the player. This time Gerrard told the fans that he never had the desire to leave the club ever, resulting a new contract for him.
With Liverpool, Steven Gerrard has won almost every competition except for the English Premier League crown. It’s a different story however with England squad. Even though widely known as the golden generation with the other England teammates, the unability for him and Frank Lampard to work together in the England midfield has been the problem for Gerrard England career.
Gerrard will be remembered by England fans for his disastrous backpass in the match against France during Euro 2004. With England level 1-1, Gerrard presented the ball to Thierry Henry – who was then brought down in the box by David James. Zinedine Zidane stepped up to fire home the winner. It was a tournament to forget for Gerrard and for England die hard fans around the world.
Below are some achievements during his Liverpool career:-
- 2001 UEFA Cup winner ()
- 2001 FA Cup winner ()
- 2001 League Cup winner ()
- 2001 European SuperCup winner ()
- 2003 League Cup winner ()
- 2005 League Cup Finals ()
- 2005 Champions League winner ()
- 2006 FA Cup winner ()

Recently with his goal in injury time against Inter Milan in the Champions League Round 2, Gerrard teammate, Jamie Carragher hailed him as a player born for big matches. Being the captain for Liverpool has undoubtedly make Steven Gerrard a better player. Gerrard is simply one of the the outstanding performers of the Premiership, a star of the European stage and the kind of player every team in the world would covet.
With his age already 28 years old, it is difficult to see Steven Gerrard moving to another club. It is a dream for every Liverpool fan for him to one club player. If he retire in The Reds shirt, Steven Gerrard for sure will be one of the legend in Anfield. Let’s all hail the captain marvel of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard.
